Family Newsletter/Journal
Dear Family,
This month has flown by and I’ve had a hard time trying to
find time to write this journal entry. It
might be short, sweet and to the point this time.
Isaac found out how much fun a roller-skating rink can
be. Unfortunately, he was unable to stay
for the black out and fog portion because he feel hard and broke his arm in two
places. It was so sad to watch. He had lots of supporters since he was there
for his school skate night and I’m sure he will be quite popular at school with
his cast. It happened just as I was
remarking to my neighbor that I was surprised that there weren’t more
injuries. Dang “FREE” skate night. Kyle took him to the ER and they got home at
2 am. LONG night. We are happy they have waterproof casts but
sad he will have to deal with all the sand at the beach and probably for the
remainder of his time with a cast because I don’t think we will ever get the
sand out. We leave on Saturday for the
beach. Everyone is excited. We are lucky that he broke his arm after
basketball season. He finished up and
had a great season with both his arms in tact.
Luke is the 2nd place (tie) winner spelling be
champ at his school. He showed us! I told him not to expect to win or anything
because he was only in 3rd grade. I learned I should have more faith
in my kids. They always surprise me. Luke recently had an assignment from his
teacher to write a series of letters to his parents asking us for something,
and trying to persuade us to say yes. He
asked for a lizard, and fortunately for us, in the process persuaded himself
that we already had enough pets and instead of getting another pet, he should
design a pet chart to help us share the responsibility of taking care of our
pets. We are quite pleased with the way
the assignment turned out, because in the beginning we were not so sure! Luke also had a birthday and turned 9. He says he still wishes he was 8, but we
celebrated anyways. He had a fun outing
with mom and dad and we went to a movie, out to eat, and to the park. His favorite present was his pogo sticks and
his current record is 850! Luke also
finished his basketball season and loved having his dad as the coach. Luke surprised us again and really improved
his basketball skills this year and he was so fun to cheer on!!
Penny is 8! She had
so much fun with her unicorn and rainbow party and I had fun throwing it. She was so lucky to have aunt Annie and her
girls here. We had fun watching them in
their Dance competition and just playing and hanging out together. It was great to have all our family from
Hooper come support Penny too. Such a
good day and she looked beautiful in her dress.
We were so lucky to have the Garners come back just 2 short weeks later
and we all went skiing. Penny was a
natural and loved it. We all did. It
convinced us we really do need to have a cabin someday to entice family here
more often and so we can go skiing more often too! We got to get Penny her
violin this past weekend. She is excited
to start lessons this week. After we got
her violin we went to see the new Cinderella movie. SO good!!
Fortunately, Ruby didn’t lose any more teeth this
month. We want her to be able to chew
her food so this was a good thing. Ruby
is such a fun girl to run errands with and she loves keeping me company. She especially loved tagging along with me
when I chaperoned Oliver and Millie’s field trip to Texas Roadhouse. The free meal of macaroni and rolls were a
bonus!! Ruby LOVED skate night and kept
telling us it was the best night ever…she did receive a nasty rope burn from
tug of war, but I think she will still want to go back someday. Ruby also loved having her cousins visit and
was SO sad when they had to leave. She
loved skiing and did such an awesome job.
She had two violin events this last month where she had to play for
judges. She did such a good job and was
so calm. I don’t understand how she
wasn’t a nervous wreck! We celebrated
and went to Cinderella and she absolutely loved it and was on the edge of her
seat and crying for a lot of it. She
tells me, I don’t know why mom, but when there is sad music, and its sad, I cry
and the water just won’t stop. She is
such a tender heart. Love her.
Oliver was so excited to help the big kids set up traps for
the leprechauns. They left him shovels
to find his own dang gold and some treats for his day skiing. He LOVED skiing
and was pretty cute on the slopes…but he wasn’t very good at it!! He did a pretty good job hanging out with us
all day though, even though he was so tired by the end of it. He absolutely LOVED the skating rink. He brought his scooter and couldn't get
enough of it. It was so cute to see his
big smile every time he rounded the circle.
He is still Mr. Funny. The other
day he lost his scooter and I told him to go to every house and ask if it was
there. When he came back about 30
seconds later, I asked him if he went to EVERY house. He thought for a long minute and then said,
“Well not in the whole entire world!”
Silly boy. Determined boy
too. He taught himself to ride on his
bike minus the training wheels! He was
so excited and could be heard by all in the houses (in the neighborhood;)
yelling, “I can’t believe I'm doing it!
I’m riding my bike!”
Millie still wants to be a part of everything but is still
just too little. She is determined to
prove herself a big girl everyday though.
She loves that I finally trust her enough at my desk to let her do her
preschool program on the computer. She
absolutely loves it. When St. Patrick’s
day rolled around she reminded us about the time the leprechaun peed in the
toilet. I remembered it well…it set us
back on our potty training quite a bit because she refused to sit on the toilet
after that. I forbid the leprechaun from
ever using our bathroom again. Millie
likes to change her clothes as much as her sisters and comes up with some
pretty great outfits. She is a lot of
entertainment!
Maxwell didn’t go skiing with us, and protested by getting a
nasty black eye while we were gone. It
has finally started to fade, so we expect he will get something else to mark
his face by the end of the week. We
might have to bubble wrap him if he doesn’t stop taking so many falls. He still is a stink bug and love bug all at
the same time. We are trying to at least
get him to fess up to his crimes. If you
walk into an empty room with only Max, and there is a book with pages ripped
out, the first thing out of his mouth is, “Simon did it.” Then when we say no, Simon didn’t do it, he
says, “Millie did it?” and then, “Oliver did it?” We try not to laugh.
Simon is still mostly just a stink bug, but now when we
catch him about to do something we just have to threaten a time out in his bed,
and he usually stops (mid hit) and runs away laughing. Little booger. We love his cuddles and he knows if we are
about to leave him, or scold him, all he has to do is insist on a cuddle on our
shoulder. We are suckers. He found a new friend in Nathan and even gave
aunt Annie and high-five our two. Baby
steps. In other Simon news—he goes to
nursery now and only screams his head off the first minute or two. Success!!
Kyle is still working really hard at his new business and
they have done as much revenue in the past three months as they did all of last
year so he is pretty excited. We have
planned a trip to visit those crazy cowboys in Texas in May and we are taking
Isaac. He is super excited for his first
airplane ride! We can’t wait!
I am still looking forward to the week that isn’t
crazy. They are either planned crazy, or
unexpected crazy (like a broken arm, etc.).
I’m going to just learn to accept it and enjoy it. My new phrase that I keep repeating to myself
is ENDURE and ENJOY. But really, why can’t
I eat my toast? Today, after 4 attempts
to get to my toast before it burned or before it was too old and cold to
actually enjoy, I gave up. Can’t someone
invent a toaster that butters it when it’s hot and serves it to you too?! Mornings are just not “me” time, ahhhh, are
they ever for any mother? I’m hungry
until dinner. Its okay, it will help me
lose my 10 lbs…a contest that I have with Kyle and let it be known---I am in
the lead!
Love you all,
