PR vs. PC; the winner is...

This is my first ever blog post. Let me pause to cherish the moment...

So this was a very interesting competition. At first, it looked like Puerto Rico would win by a landslide, but then Park City started to get traction. I was really looking forward to more comments to see if Park City's momentum could take over Puerto Rico, but unfortunately Emily couldn't help but add posts to the blog which essentially shut off all comments for the trip post.

So here are the results, and it looks like Puerto Rico is the winner:
12 say go to Puerto Rico
9 say go to Park City

So, it looks like we are headed off to Puerto Rico...except Emily said the decision was up to me and I don't have to listen to what anybody says! The freedom! So, we are not going to Puerto Rico just because more people thought we should go there. Plus, when I started looking at hotels, the only one available on cheaphotels.com was the one above (rental car included). So, we're off to an exotic Park City vacation that will keep us close to the kiddies, may save a bit of coin, and prevent our fledgling business from collapsing in my absence (which would certainly happen). The Puerto Rico trip is still first on the list of truly exotic vacations, but we'll delay it until we can afford to eat as least 2 meals per day. Plus our babysitters (who aren't really on the most wanted list in Arkansas although we probably should run a full background check) have already offered their services when we go on our six week trip to PR!

Thanks to all who posted. It was an exciting ride...

Match THIS!

I forgot that I wanted to put these pictures in my slide show...Kyle's mom made these matching p.j.'s for Easter (Luke already had his p.j.'s on so we just put his new ones over the top). The other two pictures are my niece and nephew...Kyle's brother (their dad) took the pictures and I thought they were amazing!

You Not the bunny, Mommy!

"You NOT the bunny, mommy. Take it off!" That is all Luke would say to me while I played the Easter Bunny for our MBASA (mba spouse association) Easter egg hunt. He was completely freaked out and was the first child, but not the last, to scream in terror when I entered the room. He was a little less scared when I told him it was just me in a costume but he was very interested in me taking it off! I have never liked the idea of the Easter bunny. It has always freaked me out.

Puerto Rico OR Park City...

So, Kyle and I are faced with a tough decision. A very difficult decision. Probably one of the most difficult decisions we will ever have to make in our lifetime. Do we take a graduation trip to Puerto Rico OR Park City? Please advise.

Here are the pros and cons of each.

Puerto Rico

  • Longer stay but not nearly enough time to see everything we would want to see (we would only be on the island for about 4 days and probably stay in the same city the whole time)
  • Kyle went on his mission there.
  • We have a babysitter but that is a long ways away from my kiddos...Tingeys, since you are our babysitters, we especially value your opinion.
  • More expensive--and we really do not have the funds to go crazy!
  • Great time to go because I am not pregnant--nice time to relax on the beach!
  • If we go to Puerto Rico we would not take a family vacation to California in September.
  • We have always wanted to take a trip here but we thought we would have more money and I would know more Spanish.
  • We don't have to pay for the flights.
  • Kyle would miss 4 days of work that he really should NOT miss.
  • We can stay in a decent place ON the beach!!
  • Long flight...lots of our time away spent on an airplane.

Park City

  • Close by our babysitter.
  • Can do more because it is cheaper--movies, musicals, alpine slide, zip line, hot air balloon, outlet shopping center....caramel apples.
  • Kyle only misses one day of work.
  • Stay in a nice condo right down town.
  • We are still in Utah...not much of a getaway, but it is beautiful!
  • We get to take a family trip to California in September (because Kyle will be able to take time off and we can use our Delta sky miles for this trip instead of Puerto Rico).
  • Short drive away.
  • I get to shop for clothes!
  • We probably won't get lost.

I am torn. But I am currently leaning in one direction but I would LOVE to know what you would do. Would you go on an exotic yet relatively short and limited fund trip to Puerto Rico? Or would you save your money for another Puerto Rico trip and go to Park City where Mormons can go a little crazy? What would you do?

lunch, munch, crunch!

This is a 2 part video...you have to watch both clips, starting with this one...

Well that says it all. We are enjoying our backyard, especially our sand box, in this lovely weather.

My baby turns 2!!

Luke Parley Widdison
just 1 week--who knew I would have curls?...only my aunt, can you believe she knew I had curly hair from day one? She is that good.

just 2 weeks

2 months

4 months

7 months

8 months

1 year...I know I'm cute

14 months

18 months--when the curls really started to show.
2 years...all day long I have been saying, "It's Lukey's birthday!" My mommy thinks it is too cute, so I keep saying it for her.

Just admiring mommy's creation...a choo choo train birthday cake! This cake was inspired by my Grammy Widdison, she made a train cake for my daddy when he was a little boy.

Look closely and you can see my favorite part of the cake...

Aunt Jill and Uncle Brian, I love you so much!

G&G Fillmore's gift was an instant success...for both me and my brother.

Happy Birthday Luke!!

This little guy is seriously so much fun! He is a thrill seeker--loves to climb and purposely falls off of things because he thinks it is fun and because he is a little crazy. He just loves life and although he can put on a really good pout face, he mostly wears a smile. He sings songs all day long and brings such a fun spirit to our home. We love you so much Lukey-Lou! bathroom sniffles

We love family night. It is an instant success, according to Isaac, if there are treats and a good game of red light, green light. Tonight, however, ended in tears. We talked about President Gordon B. Hinckley, how he was our prophet, and how he died and went to heaven to be with his sweetheart and Heavenly Father. We did the lesson with the gloves (our bodies) and hands (our spirits) and got to the part where our gloves get really old and die and our hands float away to heaven. At this point, Isaac had to go potty so we sat in the kitchen waiting for him. Then we heard the sniffles, and then the sobs come from the bathroom. Isaac, pants still down, was crying "I don't want to get old. I don't want to die." I quickly hurried him back to the table. I told him he left too early and that our lesson wasn't done yet. Then we talked about resurrection. He felt much better. I have never been so thankful for resurrection as I was tonight!:)

I wanted to introduce the idea of death and resurrection early on in our kids' lives so that it wouldn't be a scary thing, that it would just be another part of life, but I think we did it a little too early for our little guy Ike...he just got out of bed and cried to his daddy...he still just doesn't want to die.

Busy Bees

Luke has been busy--playing with friends, digging in the last few piles of snow, making silly faces, playing in boxes, dancing, eating lots of suckers, taking lots of baths to wash off the sticky suckers, pulling his wagon, cheezzzing it for mom, going to the zoo, and hanging outside enjoying the warm weather.

Isaac has been busy with riding his bike, riding his scooter, playing with good friends, playing on the computer, loving his brother, going to the zoo, enjoying his new found love of apples, and being a great help around the house.

Emily has been busy...doing the above.
Kyle has been...where has Kyle been? Well, he worked over 40 hours last week, went to school when he wasn't at work, and took me on a wonderful date!

We've been enjoying every minute.
